The Boston Celtics began this season as an aging, out of shape shadow of the team that had won one championship and came within a quarter of winning another since 2008. The lockout had lulled its superstar triumvirate into believing the season would not be played. Kevin Garnett had showed up out of shape. Paul Pierce showed up out of shape and then injured. Jeff Green, the remaining piece of the infamous Perkins trade, was diagnosed with an aortic irregularity and was done for the season, before it even started. Question marks abounded.
