Grading the Detroit Pistons Off-Season

The Detroit Pistons have become meh-ish as of late, but with a top 10 pick in the draft, how did they do this off-season?

Additions and Subtractions: Drafted Andre Drummond, Khris Middleton, Kim English; Signed/Traded Corey Maggette, Terrence Williams, Kyle Singler, Slava Kravtsov; Lost Ben Gordon

The major news in Detroit is their draft this summer, and the fact that Andre Drummond fell to their 9th pick.

He averaged 10 points on nearly 54% shooting, 7.6 rebounds and 2.7 blocks at UConn during his sole year there. As many first-year players, Drummond is going to need a fair amount of work, but that doesn’t take away from the fact he’s a physical specimen.

He has a great size to him, has elite athleticism, and has strength, but his post game needs work as I mentioned above Detroit is going to have to make him their “project” as he’s still learning. Also, another critique of Drummond’s game is the fact he appears unfocused. Can he keep his eyes on the prize, build his repertoire, and improve with Detroit?

It may be a few years before that question is answer, nevertheless he’s still a raw talent for the team and beneficial to them.

Detroit dumped Ben Gordon for an expiring contract in Corey Maggette, but other than savings there isn’t a clear, noticeable upgrade.

Detroit didn’t have a horrible off-season, but they didn’t have a spectacular one either.

Just kinda average.

Final Grade: C
