Let’s all go back to the Eastern Conference quarterfinals, as the Miami Heat was having it’s way with the New York Knicks. It was looking as if the Knicks would get swept again and I am sure this created tension, anger, and disappointment among the team.
It was agter the Game 2 loss, that Amar’e Stoudemire was fed up; he was so fed up he hit a fire extinguisher, which lacerated his hand and he would miss the next two games.
He says he didn’t punch the glass encased extinguisher…..and he wasn’t frustrated……he was passionate:
“It wasn’t a punch at all actually. It was more like a slap against the wall, but I caught the edge of the fire extinguisher. Some people think I balled my fist up and punched through a glass fire extinguisher, which is totally opposite of the truth. It was more like a smack against the wall, kind of a backhand or a reach back slap across the wall and caught the edge of the fire extinguisher. I think a lot of people confused my passion with frustration. I’m such a passionate player. I want to win so bad to where sometimes I want to win, so I bring my passion and it gets confused with frustration.”
When I’m feeling “passionate” about something, the last thing I do is “slap” something encased in glass, but hey, that’s just me.
