Like many coaches in the league, they will answer a mailbag hosted by their team’s website, and thanks to a fan in Los Angeles (weird.) he asked what Gregg Popovich’s favorite music was and he gave the usual Popo-ish answer:
The last live show I’ve seen was Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. And they’re still one of my favorites, you know the old stand-bys. I was a big Motown guy for a long time, being from that part of the country, and that sort of morphed into Jimmy Hendrix, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Led Zepplin, those kind of guys. And being here in Texas you can’t help but hear country music here and there
Gregg is advanced in his age so those are obvious, but good, choices. However, he was asked if he listened to Stephen Jackson’s rap music, and before I give you his quote, you may remember this from Mr. Jackson via The Basketball Jones:
In my head I’m imaging Tim Duncan bopping to your music.
Yeah, Tim has both my CDs. He’ll text me every blue moon saying he likes one of my songs. Tim’s not really a big rap guy, but if I need his support, he’ll definitely give it to me.
I assume Pop [Gregg Popovich] isn’t a big rap guy, either.
I don’t know what kind of music Pop listens to, but I would never give him my CD.
What about any of Stephen Jackson’s?
Jack used to try to give me some of his tapes, but, first of all I couldn’t even understand what was going on, and some of them you could even dance to, but once I started hearing what they were saying and everything I just gave them back.
REWIND!
Jackson actually tried to give Popovich his tapes? I wonder how that exchanged panned out?
“Hey, umm, Pop, here’s my latest tape.” “What Jack? Tape? I don’t need anything fixed, son?” “No, Pop, it’s music. MY music. It’s Fiiiirreeee.” “Firrreee. Son?”
That Mr. Popovich….
