Knicks end the playoff drought; extinguishes the Heat

April 29th, 2001.

What’s the importance of this date?? It was the last time the NEw York Knicks won a playoff game, well that was before they edged out a win yesterday over the superstar laden Miami Heat.

The New York Knicks ended a playoff win drought, so Knickerbocker fans can circle a new date on their calendar: May 6th, 2012.

They completed the win with streamers and confetti. You have to understand those things have a ‘Use By’ date that was rapidly approaching, so don’t be too harsh on the New York Knicks.

Carmelo Anthony showed up to Game 5 with fight and scored 41 points on 15-for-29 shooting, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in a tight 89-87 victory  in  Game 4  of their Eastern Conference round-one matchup at  Madison Square Garden on Sunday.

Amar’e Stoudemire, coming off of missing Game 3 after his run-in with a fire extinguisher, did remarkably well during the matchup. He scored 20 points on 8-for-13 shooting and 10 rebounds.

Then Knicks trailed by as many as 11 points, but the Knicks rallied with a 19-2 run. The game was all tied up with 2 minutes remaining when Bibby and Bron exchanged three-pointers when Carmelo nailed a three-pointer himself.

Bosh would commit a back court violation as Shane Battier would foul Carmelo Anthony beyond the arc. However, Carmelo would only make 1-for-3 from the charity stripe. However, LeBron would draw a foul — fouling out Tyson Chandler — but Wade would botch up a last second three-pointer giving the Knicks the victory.

Even the New York media was somewhat positive after the win.
