San Antonio Spurs head coach, Gregg Popovich, is to be named Coach of the Year. It will be his second time receiving this honor in his 16 year tenure. It was Spurs’ beat writer, Mike Monroe, that tweeted the news that sent NBA nerds to their keyboards.

After being upset in round one last season by the Memphis Grizzlies, the Popovich led Spurs have maintained a 50-16 (.758)record — tied with the Chicago Bulls — in a condensed season.

The key to Gregg’s success in his winning percentage is the health of his team, but also minute management. He cares less about win streaks and more about the end prize.

Popovich has the honor of being the longest-tenured coach among the same team among professional sports (NFL, MLB, NHL and NBA franchises).

Well deserved!!
